DoveTail, which is currently in early beta (you can test it today), is a distribution platform for independent film, TV shows and music videos - Rocketboom also makes an appearance. They have a web-based showcase where you can view films, add tags and make comments - you can also embed clips in external sites like MySpace and hi5.
But that’s where the YouTube comparisons end, because DoveTail also has a downloadable P2P application that runs on your desktop - on the day that Grouper was acquired by Sony for $65 million, that’s an interesting tidbit. The software doesn’t have an interface as such - it just runs in the background and allows you to download files while you’re browsing DoveTail. It’s extremely early days for this company, but I think it could be an interesting play.
